IHP GMBH – Innovations for High Performance Microelectronics / Leibniz-Institut Fuer Innovative Mikroelektronik

IHP, a member of the Leibnitz research association, is doing research and development in the area of microelectronics and information technology. As a European research and innovation centre for wireless communication technologies, it is our aim to strengthen the competitiveness of the German and European microelectronic industry.

IHP has with its core competences in materials research, semiconductor technology, circuit design and system development a closed innovation chain. It is used for the development of vertically optimized solutions from materials up to prototypes. Of central importance is the IHP pilot line equipped for 0.25 µm and 0.13 µm SiGe BiCMOS technologies. With its long-term experience in silicon microelectronics IHP cooperates in many national and international projects with Universities, research institutions and with industry. IHP is/was involved in many EU project in FP7, seven of them addressing wireless sensor networks and security. In addition IHPs is involved in several national research projects which are investigating Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) in different application areas, amongst others health-care, security hardware and environmental monitoring.

About 25 scientists and technical staff of the sensor networks research group of the System Design department conduct research and development for low-power wireless sensor networks and nodes, especially focusing on reliability, efficiency and embedded cryptographic operations. The sensor network group is/was coordinator of the FP7 projects TAMPRES, WSAN4CIP (technical), OMEGA, StrokeBack, SMARTIE, e-balance and SAID.
